Beautiful Barb Raymond of French Kiss Events is one of the best wedding and event planners in the business. I was so grateful to be able to help style her own engagement photo shoot in December at Island View beach. Adrian Michael, a fine art film photographer based in Victoria, approached Barb about doing a winter engagement styled shoot in early December. Barb and Nick were the perfect models for a west coast-inspired wedding shoot. The shoot was so beautiful that Style Me Pretty featured it on their front page January 29, 2014. This blog post is a look at the shoot from a floral design-perspective. I used hellebores, purple acacia and plumosa fern in the floral crown to give it texture. I added pine, cedar and magnolia leaves to the bouquet and finished it with long feathers to set it off.

Pretty cool way to start this year to have JuneBugWeddings.com list our little lavender farm shoot (in July) as one of their favourites of the entire year! Thanks to Jennifer Ballard Photography, French Kiss Events, Conscious Hair by Elena, Melanie Baird Makeup Artist, The White Peony Bridal Boutique, Laura Lavender Calligraphy and Victoria Lavender Farm. Be sure to scroll to the end to see the little lamb that stole the hearts of everyone that day.

I am still in shock! On Thursday, November 27, 2013 the Professional BC Wedding Awards took place at the Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier in North Vancouver and I was lucky enough to win Best Wedding Florist – Overall.

You can see the photos from the submission (Anjali & Alex, July 2013) on my Facebook page or here on my blog.

Those who know me know that this means a lot to me – I am a small florist from the island – and it is an honour to be a finalist with companies like Just Fresh Concepts and Sunflower Florist.

As some of you know, 100% of my business is from referrals and online, but I wanted everyone to know that I have a team of great friends, family and colleagues who all pitch in to help and I couldn’t do what I do without them.

Thanks again to Vasia Weddings who’s stunning photos I used for the submission and to the team at Petite Pearl Events for their exceptional planning of this wedding. Congratulations to all the winners and finalist of the Professional BC Wedding Awards.

You can hear my thoughts on how I work as I was recently interviewed by Adam Sawatsky at CTV Vancouver Island news.

UPDATE: December 2013 - I won “Best Florist – Overall” at the Professional BC Wedding Awards for the florals at Anjali + Alex’s wedding. What an honour and I am so grateful to this amazing couple that I was able to help create their vision on their special day. Anjali + Alex’s wedding is featured in the debut issue of the 2014 Real Weddings Planning Guide – you can read view the photographs by Vasia Photography in the digital version here.

“The exquisite work Vanessa created for my wedding was stunning, creative, and gorgeous beyond all imagination. Her talented artistry gracefully transformed our Oceanside Cider Farm venue into the blooming English garden of my dreams. As I gaze at pictures from that day, I am in awe of the beauty of each captured moment, the background of vibrant floral colours and arrangements making each treasured memory more celebratory, more intimate, and more lovely than I could have hoped.”
