Winter Engagement - Barb & Nick - January 29, 2014
Beautiful Barb Raymond of French Kiss Events is one of the best wedding and event planners in the business. I was so grateful to be able to help style her own engagement photo shoot in December at Island View beach. Adrian Michael, a fine art film photographer based in Victoria, approached Barb about doing a winter engagement styled shoot in early December. Barb and Nick were the perfect models for a west coast-inspired wedding shoot. The shoot was so beautiful that Style Me Pretty featured it on their front page January 29, 2014. This blog post is a look at the shoot from a floral design-perspective. I used hellebores, purple acacia and plumosa fern in the floral crown to give it texture. I added pine, cedar and magnolia leaves to the bouquet and finished it with long feathers to set it off.

Verbena Wins Best Wedding Florist 2013
I am still in shock! On Thursday, November 27, 2013 the Professional BC Wedding Awards took place at the Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier in North Vancouver and I was lucky enough to win Best Wedding Florist – Overall.

Those who know me know that this means a lot to me – I am a small florist from the island – and it is an honour to be a finalist with companies like Just Fresh Concepts and Sunflower Florist.
As some of you know, 100% of my business is from referrals and online, but I wanted everyone to know that I have a team of great friends, family and colleagues who all pitch in to help and I couldn’t do what I do without them.
Thanks again to Vasia Weddings who’s stunning photos I used for the submission and to the team at Petite Pearl Events for their exceptional planning of this wedding. Congratulations to all the winners and finalist of the Professional BC Wedding Awards.

Sold. Colourful flowers help sell the home
It is not often that a client gives you free reign on a design project, but that is exactly what happened when I was asked to fill a high-end house with beautiful flowers in anticipation of the client selling the house. The job was a designer’s dream. I started by using in-season flowers to create large, dramatic arrangements placed throughout the home. The only real restraint was time. My approach was to take direction from the English-country style of the house and the French-provincial furnishings and translate it into the florals. I took inspiration from the floral wallpaper and curtains and made them come to life.
My team was on-site all day where we created six huge arrangements including the one in the main entrance hallway. This one was close to five feet tall and equally as wide. We used foxtail lilies at their full, four-foot height. It was the largest arrangement I have ever made. In fact, we had to build it in the back of the ATV so we could ensure it was transported safely to the house!
From the owner’s garden, we incorporated agapanthus and delphinium. You can also see mini green hydrangea, coral charm peony (only available two times a year), butterfly hydrangea, lady’s mantle and astrantia from my own garden.

Sometimes a wedding is so beautiful….
We want to revisit it as we prepare for this years upcoming season. Here are some detail shots from one of the most beautiful weddings we have ever done (again in my humble opinion). I still get chills when I look through these images. Especially the ones at the end from Jenna & Tristan, I mean seriously can you get any better than these two?
